Kyle was part of the group that started the Vespers ministry, and continues to serve Bethel as a confirmation guide. Jaki helped start the college aged “monday funday”, which offers a time of bible study, bonding and fun activities for any college-aged people. PASSING THE TORCH OF FAITH by Dr. Harold Sala Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each one of you is to return to his family property and each to his own clan. Leviticus 25:10 Max Jukes, who lived in New York, neither believed in Jesus Christ nor the importance of Christian training. He never went to church, nor would he allow his children to go. Traceable to this man are more than 1026 descendants. Of this number, 300 were sentenced to prison for an assortment of crimes, 680 became alcoholics, and of the women, 190 were known prostitutes. At the same time there lived a godly minister by the name of Jonathan Edwards. His children were in church weekly. In their home the Bible was read daily, and family prayers were a common occurrence. Historians have traced his relatives—some 929 of them. Among these were 430 ministers, 86 university professors, 13 university presidents, 5 US congressmen, and 2 senators. When God talked about the influence of the fathers upon their children to the third and fourth generations, he was describing very clearly the cause and effect relationship between generations. Centuries ago, God spoke of Abraham, saying, “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him” (Genesis 18:19, KJV). A LITTLE BIT OF LOVE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE by Dr. Harold Sala If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1 In 1996 a group of top notch scientists came up with some astonishing conclusions regarding mental retardation. Dr. Fred Krause, a noted authority and spokesman for the Committee on Mental Retardation, said that many children who are classified as mentally retarded children with intelligence quotients between 50 and 75–are not really retarded. He contended that they are suffering from a lack of old fashioned love and parental concern. While the study pointed out that at least 365 childhood diseases can affect the brain and retard mental growth, it charged that four out of five classified as mentally retarded are the victims of a loveless society. Is he right? Are his conclusions just as valid today? While you may disagree, does he yet not make a point? Before you decide, hear out the evidence. Dr. Frank Menolasciono, a professor of psychiatry who teaches at a medical school, says that medical science is abandoning the view that nothing can be done to help the child who is retarded. Dr. Menolasciono speaks out strongly against simply doling out tranquilizers to make a child submissive. He said, “The tranquilizing drugs have become chemical straitjackets.” Young retarded children in many institutions are being given enough drugs to “tranquilize a horse” as a substitute for trying …
